The Asian Directories and Chronicles (ADC) repository is a long-term data output of Europa Institute Basel's Divisive Power of Citizenship project. It represents 79 out of 84 of the annual volumes of The Hongkong Daily Press serial—published between 1863 and 1941—and was assembled as a digital corpus from purchase as well as through support and loans from multiple institutions' libraries, between 2015 and 2018.
ADC comprizes high-resolution digital impressions of the complete publications - averaging more than 2000 pages per volume. Character recognition and correction at scale, for extraction of accurate person and organization entities as IIIF annotations already addresses major sections of the publication, such as Foreign Residents listings, and these will increasingly be made available to the research community as datasets.
The latest standards-based digital techniques have been employed to make transcriptions and scholars' analyses searchable and connected interactively with locations in the printed source. CERN's Invenio repository technology ensures both long-term access to this research investment, and effective long-term digital preservation and enrichment.
